One of the principal aims of OxFEST is to develop a support network of role models, mentors and peers. Although we feel that this is somewhat addressed through the opportunity to meet others at the variety of events we offer, the OxFEST Committee are interested in ways to more directly provide role models and mentors. In 2013, we launched our new mentoring initiative, which aims to provide females in Engineering, Science and Technology who are members of Oxford University and of OxFEST with the personal support of a more experienced individual. This support may take the form of email contact, face-to-face meetings, telephone calls or video calls.
How does it work?
OxFEST’s Mentorship Programme is run on a volunteer basis. We introduce the mentee and mentor to one another via email. We will then keep in the background and just check in once in a while to ask how things are going and to encourage you to keep up with your meetings. We also evaluate our mentorship programme through short questionnaires as well as open feedback questions.
